Fight For What You Believe In

What does it really mean to fight for something you believe in?

Sometimes it means confronting the doubts that keep us from moving forward. It can mean dedicating ourselves to something far greater than our own ambitions. Or, it means having the courage to follow an unconventional path, even when others don’t understand it.

In this special episode of The Virtual Campfire, Tony Martignetti brings together three extraordinary stories from Dolores Hirschmann, Bob Coughlin, and Franziska Iseli to explore the different ways courage, conviction, and action can transform our lives.

Their experiences reveal that fighting for what matters doesn’t always mean knowing how things will turn out.

Sometimes it simply means deciding that something is worth showing up for.

Finding the Courage to Begin

For Dolores Hirschmann, transformation began with a deceptively simple question:

What do you want?

Despite being an experienced entrepreneur, Dolores found herself unable to answer. She had become trapped in a situation that left her unhappy, uncertain, and disconnected from her own sense of possibility.

What changed wasn’t her circumstances. It was her willingness to become curious about herself.

That curiosity led her toward coaching, a new professional direction, and an entirely different understanding of her own potential.

But the journey wasn’t without fear. Even as she began working with clients, self-doubt and uncertainty followed her.

Dolores discovered that courage doesn’t mean waiting until those feelings disappear.

It means being willing to step into the arena while they’re still present.

When Purpose Becomes Personal

Bob Coughlin’s story reveals another dimension of fighting for what matters.

While running for the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Bob learned that his unborn son had cystic fibrosis.

His first instinct was to abandon his political ambitions and return to a more predictable career.

But a conversation with a social worker changed his perspective.

What if his position could become a way to help his son and countless other families facing devastating illnesses?

Bob continued his political career and became deeply involved in advancing life sciences, supporting research, shaping policy, and helping bring together the people and organizations working toward better treatments.

His journey demonstrates how personal adversity can become a powerful source of purpose.

Bob couldn’t personally develop the medicine his son needed.

But he could contribute the skills, influence, and determination he already possessed.

And those contributions became part of something much larger than himself.

Taking the Shot

For Franziska Iseli, the unexpected death of her father became a defining moment.

Confronted with the uncertainty of life, she began questioning whether she was truly living in alignment with her ambitions and values.

She eventually left her advertising career to start her own business, trusting her instincts even when others questioned her decisions.

That same willingness to challenge herself later inspired an extraordinary motorcycle journey from Switzerland toward Kazakhstan.

What began as an experiment in courage became an exploration of personal growth, human connection, and the kindness of strangers.

Franziska’s philosophy is refreshingly practical.

Take chances.

Accept imperfection.

Learn from failure.

And focus on what you can control rather than becoming consumed by outcomes you cannot predict.

Belief Becomes Powerful Through Action

Although their journeys are very different, Dolores, Bob, and Franziska share an important realization.

Belief alone isn’t enough.

Dolores had to move beyond confusion and take the first step.

Bob had to turn his personal mission into meaningful action.

Franziska had to trust herself enough to take chances without guarantees.

Each discovered that courage isn’t necessarily a feeling we possess before acting.

It’s something we develop through the willingness to act.

And sometimes the most meaningful transformations begin long before we can see where the road will lead.

Fight for What You Believe

Fighting for what matters doesn’t always look like a dramatic act of defiance.

It can be asking yourself an uncomfortable question.

Sometimes it’s refusing to give up when the stakes become personal.

Or, it’s choosing an unfamiliar road because staying where you are no longer feels right.

What connects these experiences is the willingness to keep moving, even when uncertainty remains.

Because the true measure of our convictions isn’t simply what we say we believe.

It’s what we’re willing to do about them.
